Day Care
Services
Gifts has two Day Hospices, one in Sleaford and the other in Grantham. In both you are treated as our guest. Many people find it surprising that the hospice is more than just a building, it is a warm, caring environment where laughter is often heard.
Hospice care is based upon the belief that death and dying are a natural part of life and the belief that quality of life for people with terminal illnesses should be made as positive as possible.
Our emphasis is on the person first and the illness second. We concentrate on the gift of life and believe it is possible to achieve a sense of well being in the face of a life threatening illness.
Our services are holistic and support the whole person and family. This care supports many needs including:
- Physical
- Emotional
- Social
- Spiritual
- Phychological
There are times when you know that the quality of life is more important than the length of it. Our aim is to help those facing death and their families make the most of whatever time is left.
Facilities
Our Day Hospices can accommodate up to 12 patients each day and have been adapted to the various needs of those receiving care, including provision for wheelchairs. Guests are able to attend one day a week and stay between 10:30am and 3:30pm. Morning coffee, a home-cooked 2-course lunch and afternoon tea are provided. Our kitchen can cater for all dietry requirements.
There is no strict timetable of activities at the Day Hospice as these are determined by individual needs. An important part of Day Care is socialising and guests are free to chat, enjoy a board game, take part in arts and crafts activities or simple sit and relax.
I really look forward to coming to the Day Hospice and it gives my family a break. The staff at Gifts are very caring and have helped me improved the quality of my life. Guest – Gifts Day Hospice
The whole family is affected by a life-threatening illness. The atmosphere at home can be highly charged with concerns, fatigue, personal pressures and fear. A sufferer may wish to discuss emotional issues which could distress a loved one.

Gifts staff can offer a confidential listening ear, which often allows the pressure to be released. If required, counselling is also available to anyone in the family.
Additional Facilities
Complementary Therapies
Complementary therapies are a valued part of palliative care services and treatments are designed to complement existing methods of treatment. They should not be regarded as an alternative to medical treatment.
At Gifts we offer aromatherapy, reiki ,reflexology and hand massage to terminally ill patients to help relieve stress and tension, to help relaxation and promote a sense of well being.
Gifts offers the service of complementary therapies free of charge which are supplied by qualified therapists. Please ask a volunteer or member of staff for further information.
Bathing
Within the Grantham Hospice we also have a fully equipped state of the art bath with jacuzzi. The bath is specially adapted so that people who can no longer climb into their baths at home, can bathe under the care and supervision of one of the Hospice carers. We supply the bubbles and warm towels. Again, this is supplied free of charge and can easily be arranged by speaking to a member of staff.
Visits and Activities
In our creative arts room, guests are given the chance to create a host of different items either for personal use or as fundraising gifts. Visits are also organised to local venues and entertainment provided, either by the carers or external supporters.
Transport
Transport may be provided to and from the Day Hospice, depending on availability of volunteer drivers.
